Why I Write Gothic Horror

I've always been drawn to the macabre. There's something about gothic literature that speaks to the parts of us we don't always want to acknowledge—our fears, our losses, the ghosts we carry. I grew up reading everything from Edgar Allan Poe to Shirley Jackson, captivated by how horror could be both terrifying and deeply human.

The French Revolution became the perfect backdrop—a time when the world was literally tearing itself apart, when death was everywhere, and when people were desperate enough to turn to witchcraft and the occult for answers.
